I am the creator of ASK DEEP QUESTIONS, which started out as a deck of cards to help his friends connect on a camping trip and is now being used to facilitate meaningful conversations through sharing personal and vulnerable stories on every continent around the globe.

My work has been featured on TEDx, CBC News, Breakfast TV, Cityline and HuffPost and he is currently building a community of facilitators that design the MAGICAL HUMAN MOMENTS.

My mission is to help people feel less alone, so by creating experiences, workshops and programs I aim to fuel the movement for deeper human connection.

I'm excited to speak about

In a time when we need human connection more than ever – it seems that regular, unfacilitated Zoom Meetings won’t solve the problem of feeling disconnected, isolated and alone.

In remote workplaces we have to change the way we interact with each other:

  • We don’t have more watercooler conversations
  • We aren’t hanging out with others over lunch or after work
  • We don’t bump into each other in the hallways

In teaching over hundreds of experience designers, trainers and facilitators I have learned one important detail about gathering groups online:

“Authentic connections don’t just happen by accident online – we need to design them.”

In this interactive session you’ll experience and learn how to:

  • Design Opportunities for Genuine Connection in your Zoom Meetings
  • Engage your Participants even if they suffer from Zoom Fatigue
  • Get close to 100% of attendees to turn ON their video (without begging)

Have you ever asked a question on Zoom and just … *crickets* ?!  🦗🦗🦗

Most of us have had to reinvent how we run our in-person workshops and events and not only is it much harder to “read the room” and tell if your participants are engaged…

But if you’re like me in the beginning, you’re not even sure if it’s even possible to capture the “MAGIC” of the experiences you used to run in person.

After I’ve realized that it is TOTALLY POSSIBLE to forget that we’re looking at a screen when we gather online, I’ve made it my mission to teach others my secrets.

In this interactive talk I am sharing my secret tips and tricks to:

  • Engage your Participants even if they suffer from Zoom Fatigue
  • Get close to 100% of attendees to turn ON their video (without begging)
  • Blow up your chat with “OMG!”, “This was epic!” and other raving testimonials

Ice Melters (that spark Deep Connections)

Facilitating a fun activity at the start of a session that gets everyone to loosened up and makes the rest of the meeting or event run smoother is a great idea, but as soon as you mention the word “icebreaker” everyone cringes.

I mean, just thinking about the act of “breaking” the ice… it sounds jarring! So it’s no wonder that it often makes a lot of participants uncomfortable.

What if, instead of “breaking” the ice, we take the more careful approach and “melt” the ice instead?!

In this workshop I’ll share with you how to intentionally design activities that “warm up” a group, build openness, trust and spark deep connections – without making them cringe and run away.

If you are looking for a speaker who talks for an hour without engaging the audience or someone to share a powerpoint on a webinar without the audience being able to participate in the chat, then I am probably not a good fit.

My talks are highly interactive and I don’t talk to your AUDIENCE, I engage your PARTICIPANTS.

I want to make sure they feel seen and heard, so my favourite platform is Zoom Meetings, where everyone has the opportunity to turn on their camera, engage with gestures, hold up objects and use some of the virtual engagement features.

It was an absolute pleasure working with the brilliant Jan Keck.

HRPA thoroughly enjoyed having Jan as our first-ever IDEA Stage Host at Canada's largest HR Conference and Trade Show in January 2020.

He made it such a captivating experience for the attendees and the speakers, and they shared their positive feedback about Jan in the post-show surveys. Jan took special care to learn about all of the nine presentations beforehand and prepared insightful questions for the speakers for their Q&A’s. Post-Show Jan shared some excellent suggestions on ways HRPA can improve the Idea Stage for the 2021 event.

I am looking forward to working with Jan again in the future.
