HEY, I'M JAN AND I AM ON A SMALL TALK DETOX 👋

I am the creator of ASK DEEP QUESTIONS, which started out as a deck of cards to help his friends connect on a camping trip and is now being used to facilitate meaningful conversations through sharing personal and vulnerable stories on every continent around the globe.

My work has been featured on TEDx, CBC News, Breakfast TV, Cityline and HuffPost and I am currently building a community of facilitators that design the MAGICAL HUMAN MOMENTS.

My mission is to help people feel less alone. By creating experiences, workshops and programs I aim to fuel the movement for deeper human connection.

If you are looking for a speaker who talks for an hour without including the audience or someone to share a powerpoint without the audience being able to participate in the chat, then I am probably not a good fit.

My talks are highly interactive and I don’t talk to your AUDIENCE, I engage your PARTICIPANTS.

CONNECTION BY DESIGN

In a time when we need human connection more than ever – it seems that regular, unfacilitated Zoom Meetings won’t solve the problem of feeling disconnected, isolated and alone.

In remote workplaces we have to change the way we interact with each other:

  • We don’t have more watercooler conversations
  • We aren’t connecting over lunch or after work
  • We don’t bump into each other in the hallways

In teaching over hundreds of experience designers, trainers and facilitators I have learned one important detail about gathering groups online:

“Authentic connections don’t just happen by accident online.
We need to design them.”

DEEPLY CONNECTED TEAMS

Bringing together individuals to form a high performing team can be challenging.

Without trust, they may not share crucial information, they might battle over rights and responsibilities, and they may not cooperate with one another. This often means that they will avoid any and all conflict and shy away from discussing controversial, challenging topics. Information gets withheld, mistakes are hidden and people quit.

So, what can we do to make sure we build psychological safety, connections and trust quickly, so the team members will provide each other with emotional support to get unstuck and make better decisions since they feel safe to share information?

TARGET AUDIENCE

  • Managers
  • Directors
  • Team Leaders
  • HR Professionals
  • Team Builders

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Learn why psychological safety is the foundation for high-performing teams
  • Explore the 3 essential skills to create deep connections for your team
  • Take away connection activity ideas you can implement at your next team meeting

BEYOND SMALL TALK

Small Talk is not evil but it can be painful if you get stuck in it for too long!

It is the foundation for authentic relationships down the road and if you don’t have a strategy on how to move from meaningless to meaningful conversations you might miss out on connecting with amazing people.

Attendees who pay big bucks for a conference do so for the experience and the connections.

In this interactive session attendees get a chance to connect with each other and learn about authentic networking strategies to build rapport with strangers, get beyond small talk and create meaningful connections.

  • Conferences
  • Large Events
  • Associations

  • Communities
  • Retreats

  • Practise new conversation starters that spark meaningful conversations without feeling awkward
  • Learn how to make a lasting first impression and answer “So, what do you do?” in an intriguing way

I'M AVAILABLE IN-PERSON OR VIRTUALLY

There is a certain magic when like-minded people gather in the same room – something that is hard to recreate online. So for the last few years I made it my mission to become the best there is in making keynotes engaging and memorable – even on Zoom.

So if you invite me to join your event in person or virtually – I will make sure your audience walks away with new insights, lessons and even some new connections.

If you’re hosting an in-person conference, event or retreat, you might even want to check out what else we could create together to make it stand out and pre-sell tickets for the next one.

It was an absolute pleasure working with the brilliant Jan Keck.

HRPA thoroughly enjoyed having Jan as our first-ever IDEA Stage Host at Canada's largest HR Conference and Trade Show in January 2020.

He made it such a captivating experience for the attendees and the speakers, and they shared their positive feedback about Jan in the post-show surveys. Jan took special care to learn about all of the nine presentations beforehand and prepared insightful questions for the speakers for their Q&A’s. Post-Show Jan shared some excellent suggestions on ways HRPA can improve the Idea Stage for the 2021 event.

I am looking forward to working with Jan again in the future.
