The first 10 minutes felt like an eternity as people slowly trickled in, and by the time the meeting started, I was already mentally checked out.

Picture this:

You’re about to start your team meeting, but half of the participants haven’t shown up yet. You’re left with awkward small talk and silence. It can be so frustrating and leave participants feeling disconnected before the meeting even begins.

But the worst thing you can say when participants log in to your meeting is this:

“Let’s just wait until everyone has arrived…

In this one sentence, we are:

  • Penalizing the people who arrive on time and communicating that we don’t value their time ⏱
  • Setting expectations that we don’t start on time, so people will keep coming five minutes later than the “real” start time 🏃‍♀️
  • Implying “in this group, we do not always keep our commitments in the ways we say we will” 🤝🏻
  • Allowing participants to disengage before the meeting even starts 🤳🏻

How can you make sure your meetings start on time and keep participants engaged from the get-go?

In the video below, I’ll share some valuable tips on how to start your meetings effectively and increase engagement among participants by 874 percent!! Plus I’ll give you a sneak peek of one of my favourite virtual engagement tools!

Here’s the real secret to increasing engagement:

As a leader, it’s your responsibility to ensure that your meetings are interactive and engaging.

People are more likely to stay engaged and participate when they feel like they’re part of the conversation, rather than just passive listeners.

Imagine a meeting where everyone arrives on time, the facilitator starts promptly, and participants are actively engaged and contributing ideas. Not only will this save time and resources, but it can also lead to better decision-making and increased productivity.
