About the Training
You’ve seen it happen. The icebreaker falls flat. The room stays quiet. The voices you most needed to hear never show up.
Maybe you’ve tried the usual openers and felt the energy drain out of the room instead of into it. The polite smiles. The one person who dominates while everyone else goes quiet. The sense that connection is happening to people, not with them.
You don’t need more icebreakers.
You need a better way to help people arrive, connect, and contribute.

Imagine if you could:
- Read where your group is instead of guessing what activity to run
- Start with the right level of participation rather than asking too much, too soon
- Build warmth and trust gradually so people become more willing to contribute
- Choose and adapt activities with intention because you understand what each one is designed to do
- Notice when something isn’t working and know what to adjust
- Design a complete participation journey for a real workshop, meeting or session you have coming up
Who this is for
You don’t need to call yourself a facilitator.
This training is for anyone who brings people together and wants those people to actually participate.
That might mean you’re a:
- Facilitator or trainer
- Team leader or manager
- Educator or professor
- HR or L&D professional
- Consultant or coach
- Community builder
- Anyone responsible for leading meetings, workshops, conversations or group experiences
If you’ve ever looked at a quiet room and thought, “How do I get more people involved without forcing them?”, this is for you.
”Watching Jan Keck turn a room of strangers into a connected group in person is something I won't forget. The Campfire Method shows exactly how he does it, and how any facilitator can build that same trust and inclusivity in their own workshops.

About the Experience
This isn’t a five-hour workshop in a conference room.
It’s a chance to experience the method while you’re learning it.
We’ll use the environment, movement, conversations and the group itself as part of the learning.
Expect walk-and-talks under the trees, hands-on practice, meaningful conversations and, eventually, a real campfire.
You’ll experience what it feels like when participation builds gradually, then unpack why it worked and how to recreate it with your own groups.
Your Campfire Method Training includes

About the Host / Author / Facilitator
Hey, I’m Jan 👋
I help leaders, facilitators, and teams create brave spaces where real conversations happen.
For over a decade, I’ve worked with organizations to turn crickets into conversations, low engagement into deep connection, and small talk into meaningful dialogue. My expertise is in facilitative leadership — helping you not just run meetings, but create experiences where people feel included, heard, and empowered to contribute.
I’ve designed and led hundreds of workshops, trained leaders across industries, and developed frameworks that help facilitators handle resistance, disengagement, and high-stakes moments with confidence.

F.A.Q.
Everything else you need to know
Who is this training for?
This is for anyone who leads groups and wants more participation, connection and meaningful conversation.
You might be a facilitator, trainer, team leader, manager, educator, HR or L&D professional, consultant, coach or community builder.
You don’t need to call yourself a facilitator. If part of your role involves bringing people together and getting them involved, the Campfire Method can help.
I've already read the book. Will I still get value from this?
Absolutely.
The book gives you the framework. This training gives you the opportunity to experience it, practise it and apply it to your own work.
You’ll work on a real session you’re planning, build your own Campfire Session Map and bring your own questions and challenges into the conversation.
This isn’t a five-hour summary of the book.
It’s a chance to make the method your own.
I'm already an experienced facilitator. Is this too basic for me?
No.
The Campfire Method isn’t about collecting beginner icebreakers or adding more activities to your toolkit.
It’s about understanding how participation builds, how to diagnose where a group is and how to make intentional decisions about what to do next.
Experienced facilitators often have plenty of activities. What they don’t always have is a clear framework for knowing why, when and in what sequence to use them.
You’ll also have the opportunity to apply the method to a real challenge from your own work.
What will I leave with?
You’ll leave with your own Campfire Session Map, designed around a real workshop, meeting or group experience you’re planning.
You’ll also leave with a practical framework for reading your group, building participation gradually and adjusting when things aren’t working as expected.
Plus, you’ll receive access to my Connection Activities Database.
Where exactly will the training take place?
On Toronto Island. We meet at the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal at 8:30 AM and take the ferry over together (ticket is included in your ticket).
The island gives us trees, water, quiet, and a real campfire, all within a short walk of the dock.
Why is the training outdoors? What happens if it rains?
Because the environment is part of the learning.
We’ll get outside, use natural materials, have conversations while walking, and step away from the usual workshop-room setup.
And yes, we’ll end around a real campfire.
The goal isn’t to turn this into a camping trip. It’s to create a different kind of learning environment and give us opportunities to experience the Campfire Method in ways that wouldn’t be possible sitting around a conference table.
Weather:
We’ll keep an eye on the forecast and have a backup plan.
The training will still happen. Depending on the weather, we’ll adapt the outdoor elements or move parts of the experience indoors or under cover.
I’ll send everyone the final details before the training, but expect to dress for the weather.
How is this different from just reading your book?
The book gives you the method. This experience helps you make it your own.
Reading about the Campfire Method is one thing.
Experiencing it with a group, practising the principles, applying them to your own work and getting the chance to bring your real questions into the room is something else.
This isn’t five hours of me reading the book back to you.
You’ll experience the method from the inside, understand why it works and leave with a plan for putting it into practice.
What should I bring?
- Comfortable shoes you can walk in
- Wear layers, plus a rain jacket if the forecast calls for it
- Water bottle
- Sunscreen
- Optional: seat cushion
- Optional: camping mug
Is there food and drinks?
I’ll provide some snacks to keep us going during the training.
We’ll finish near a spot where anyone who wants can grab lunch together afterwards. Lunch isn’t included, so there’s no pressure to join, but it could be a nice way to keep the conversations going.
Please bring a water bottle and any other drinks you’d like to have during the day.
What's included in the ticket?
Your ticket includes the full 4.5-hour, small-group training with me.
We’ll work with a maximum of 12 participants so there is plenty of room to participate, practise, ask questions, and get to know the other people in the group.
I’ll also provide any materials you need for the activities.
What is the Refund Policy?
If your plans change, let me know as soon as possible. You can transfer your spot to someone else at any time.
